When is a Notice of Storage Lien used?
The notice must be issued within a certain amount of time after the goods are deposited into storage. All provinces require notice to be issued within 60 days, however, registered vehicles in Ontario require notice within 14 days.
Why is a Notice of Storage Lien used?
If goods are deposited into storage by someone other than the owner notice must be issued to avoid storage charges being restricted to a certain period of time (typically 60 days).
What is the next step?
If the notice of lien does not result in the matter being resolved, storers can proceed with issuing a notice of intention to sell to start the legal process towards the sale of the stored goods.
